Happy Republic Day

Happy Republic Day!!
Today, India celebrated its 61st Republic Day. I was just thinking what does this day mean for we, 'the youth' .I mean, ya we all know the reason behind "The 26th Jan", and the basic history. But, is it actually important for us? Few days back when I was in my class of research, my teacher asked everyone that what do we understand by fundamental rights and fundamental duties and what is the difference between the both. She also used term like Directive principles. We all have heard and studied about these, but shockingly in the class no one could actually explain the meanings and difference. All these terms were like things that we know but we ignore and never care to learn about them. So, we "the youth", who ignored the subject Civics or who never bother to read beyond the headlines of front page and go in detail of supplements, do we really care about 26th January?
I don't know whether I should blame myself for being so ignorant or the system. Well system includes my parents, my government, my education. I have not come across many parents who would actually educate their kids with our government system. Yes, I have seen parents applauding every time their young kid stands in front of their relatives n friend Circle and make the parents proud by reciting the national anthem for the first time always. But, then they also do applaud whenever the kid recites a tough English poem . So, I guess they both are nothing but a tool for parents to flaunt about how well they are educating their child. Apart from being a kid, when eventually the grown up starts understanding world, I have not seen many parents discussing with their kids Politics. But yes, I have seen them discussing which college is best, which stream is best, etc etc. So, this area is not remarkably touched by the parents.
Now, if I think about Education system. We have a subject called Civics, that teaches us about our government. But, school education is very basic and the education system being largely based on the principle of fetching more marks, we really don't bother to understand. And, then our so important society with a stereotype that anyone taking arts as a stream is below average, discourages students on choosing what they want to learn.
Now comes me and my government. Well, I am at fault of writing and criticising my education system, my parents, etc for not educating me with education system, but not making an effort to learn about it myself. To answer this, I would play a blame game and crown the blame to government. One thing which every educated and uneducated citizen of our country knows is that no matter how many books you read on our democracy and constitutional rights, our government works on Corruption. We are not interested in knowing about anything bookish related to government, with the only reason that we don't have faith in our government.
But, really to think about it, it is a vicious circle. We have a power to choose our government but we don't use the power. We have an answer that all the politicians are same no matter who we elect. Then there is one more question- that why doesn't the youth opt for politics. then we answer and then one more question...
I guess, this is what the problem is, that no one wants to change and everyone have their own defence statement ready.
But, I guess someone someday will take some step and change.. Till then lets enjoy 26th January as a National Holiday and have a nice off from usual days and party.. Happy Republic Day Jai Hind
